Show Notes
A slightly unsteady LTIA Pt IV gets this gig underway. Things come right by the time the team get to the fast running lines which cut through the previous uncertainty in the playing with a determined and decisive conviction.
“Good evening... so far” laughs Belew afterwards as they go into pretty straightforward ProzaKc Blues. Yet once again there’s an equipment / monitoring problem that undermines parts of the ConstruKction in mid-flight. The band recover well by the time Belew’s vocals come in though there’s a sense that they only just made it. Things aren’t helped when during FraKcture, the settings of Lunar Module are not where their pilot wanted them to be. The result is a fast metal section that consists of Gunn and Mastelotto belting along while Fripp’s feet hit the pedalboard buttons as fast as fingers normally would in order to try and correct the course. He gets there but only just.
With Crimson it’s not about the mistakes or the malfunctions but the recovery On this, as elsewhere, they just about manage it. The first improv of the evening is a fairly inconclusive sortie around the handsonic percussion. The second is a particularly robust turn by the rhythm buddies with somewhat circumspect embellishments from Belew and Fripp. There was a degree of consensus amongst the Crims that this particular gig lacked the energy and to these ears, it would seem they are on the money with that opinion.
