“Right about now you must be thinking to yourselves, how do they put Turkey in every song?”

KSC took things up a notch for their 9th annual Turkey Jam for their first headline play at The National in Richmond, Virginia. Their past two plays there were opening up The Infamous Stringdusters in 2022 and opening for Papadosio earlier in the year. On this night, long time friends, South Hill Bank, kicked off the night followed by Doom Flamingo, whom the band played about a dozen shows with throughout 2024.

“Turkey Gravy” opener to the tune of “Foxey Lady”. The most classic of the classics. The one that started it all.

Mean “Cobbler” up next. Dessert came early this year. This version got culty with a “join us” chant.

This is very impressive. They find a way to work Turkey into all their songs. The next tune “Emulsified” doesn’t but it’s food related for sure.

Stanley features lyrics “you’re so high I’m a turkey” Ben plays a special Thanksgiving themed tease

“Turkey in the Straw” is a tradition started last year. Fun tune.

This year’s third biggest surprise. Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” played as “Last Dessert” into “Aged White Cheddar (Deep Fried Turkey” into Cranberries “Zombie (Turkey)” into disco “Cheddar.” Back into the riff from “Last Resort”

I’m a 79 year old lady looking for “Mister Funky Turkey.” He likes his turkey many different ways. Long slow smoked vs quick deep fried. Grandma and grandpa late night leftover quiet turkey.

This years’ second biggest surprise was ZZ Top’s “Gimme All Your Lovin’” with the lyrics “Gimme all your stuffin, all your mashed potatoes too”. Ben tries to rock out

“Porridge” with the lyrics “the gravy is hot, the gravy is cold” Brian rants about Goldilocks at the Thanksgiving table expressing controversial political views and forgetting to heat up the gravy

“Checkin’ Out” the turkey and that gravy. Clever. Extended sax solo. Ventures into type 2 free jazz territory. Then slow funk. Then vocal jam.

This year biggest surprise was Cars into Kiss’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” with lyrics “I want dinner rolls all night and turkey every day” The band upped the ante by throwing dinner rolls into the audience for their hungry fans. It’s a thanksgiving miracle. Also a subtle “Emulsified” throwback.

Band is too full from Turkey to play encore so they call up Sauerkraut for “Turkey in Zeh Straw.” Gravy everywhere. The green beans are pretty good this year. Gobble Gobble.
