Show Notes
GarciaLive Volume 13 puts a spotlight on the Jerry Garcia Band’s legendary September ’89 run highlighting the September 16th show at Poplar Creek Music Theatre located in the suburbs of Chicago. Alongside the Jerry Garcia Band – John Kahn, David Kemper, Melvin Seals, Gloria Jones, and Jacklyn LaBranch – there is one BIG addition on saxophone… the Big Man, Clarence Clemons (Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band). While the setlist is fairly standard for the era, Clemons helps the band find new heights on old staples like The Band's “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” The Beatles’ “Dear Prudence" and a pair of Garcia/Hunter originals, “Cats Under The Stars” and “They Love Each Other.” One relative rarity of note is a positively blistering take on The Rolling Stones’ romp “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” dusted off earlier in the year after having been absent since ’76, which closes set one spectacularly. Top to bottom, this one is filled with magic.

"Great opener with CUTS > TLEO. The ShallBRelased and Someday Baby are excellent. The entire 2nd set is pure Jerry magic, esp. KOHD and TUIB to finish....Fantastic show and One of JGB's best. "

"Honestly, one of my top five live music experiences. Me and five friends pitched in for a limo from Chicago to this show. Clean L and a magical night I will never forget! Clarence on sax the whole night too. "

"Flew from KC to Chicago to see this show when I was 18. Had no idea it would be “Volume 13” 30 years later....."

"Love this show... You’ve got the staples of JGB like cats and They Love Each Other. Also a few that don’t make the list too often. Some songs can get a little slow but for some reason it just drives home the sense of emotion one gets from listening to JGB. 8/10"
